It doesn’t matter where you are today, don’t allow circumstances keep you stagnant. Don’t allow your past, your record, where you come from, or what you think you lack hold you back; and don’t listen to those who say you can’t!
To the young men and women surrounded by drugs, poverty, violence – dream, and DREAM BIG! Don’t allow what you see to determine what you become.
It doesn’t matter if you come from a family of crack addicts – that’s not YOU.
It doesn’t matter if you come from a family of hoes (and yes I mean, hoes) – that’s not YOU.
It doesn’t matter if everyone in your family been in and out of jail – that’s not YOU.
…AND SO WHAT IF IT WAS YOU?
Your past is just that your PAST.
I don’t care if you just shot up or just left a trick’s car — YOU ARE WORTH MORE AND WORTHY OF MORE.
To my single mothers who postponed dreams to care for children born sooner than expected, DO NOT SETTLE. DO NOT GIVE UP ON YOUR DREAMS! You deserve MORE than just to get by! Having children doesn’t strip your intelligence or drive, and it certainly doesn’t stop you from dreaming. You can still get that college degree and have that career. You CAN STILL go after your dreams and/or dream NEW dreams!
DREAM…PLAN…AND GET TO WORK!
If not for you, for your babies! It won’t be easy, but it’s not impossible.
You might be the ONLY PERSON who believes you can do better. You might be the ONLY person who looks at your circumstances and desires more. You may need to do it alone before you gain the support you and encouragement of others.
STILL, DON’T GIVE UP.
Don’t let people or circumstances limit you; and don’t allow past choices to define you.
You are not your f***-ups!
You are not what your father, mother, sister, brother, aunt, cousins or three generations of family have been…YOU. ARE. YOU… and YOU should be the only one to define who you are.
I know how it feels to be counted out because of your mistakes. I made the choice to fight, and proved them wrong. You can make the choice to fight for YOU.
YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN, DEAR LOVE…..
Don’t do it for them, do it for you. You owe it to yourself and your future. You CAN do it.
