In the article linked above [“President Obama: ‘People Committed Terrible Deeds In The Name Of Christ'” (Huffpost)], President Obama said “ “remember that during the Crusades and the Inquisition, people committed terrible deeds in the name of Christ. In our home country, slavery and Jim Crow all too often was justified in the name of Christ.”
….this comment has apparently upset numerous Christians…
But why?….he told the truth.
People really did and still DO use the name of Christ to justify all kinds of terrible deeds, including terror (i.e. the KKK). So why the anger? We as a church cannot move past our sins if we can’t acknowledge them (with repentance) and move forward in Christ to walk as Christ did and show people His true light and love. Getting pissed at Obama for speaking this doesn’t make it any less true…deflecting back to terrorism done in the name of Islam doesn’t remove the terrorism done in the name of Christ. Matthew 7:3-5; Luke 6:42…..we must do better.
